A tanulmány a „Frankenstein-folyóiratok” jelenségét vizsgálja; azon folyóiratokét, amelyek publikációs száma rendkívül szokatlanul, robbanásszerű módon növekszik. A 2022 és 2024 közötti időszakban 887 ilyen folyóiratot azonosítottunk ScimagoJR- és SciVal-adatbázisok alapján. A folyóiratokat három típusba soroltuk, lecsengő, késleltetett növekedésű és exponenciális publikációszám-növekedésű folyóirat-kategóriák szerint. Elemzésünk rámutat, hogy a nagy növekedés gyakran nem tartható fenn, és tudományetikai problémákat vet fel, sőt extrém esetben a Frankenstein-folyóiratokat kizárják a Scopusból. Az MTMT rendszerének pontatlanságai tovább nehezítik a kutatók tudatos folyóirat-választását, amire tekintettel reformokat javaslunk a hazai folyóirat-értékelési gyakorlat átláthatóságának növelésére. A tanulmány célja a tudatos publikációs döntéshozatal támogatása és a figyelemfelhívás a potenciálisan kockázatos lapok elkerülésére. | We examine the phenomenon of ‘Frankenstein journals’, which are experiencing a highly unusual boom in publication numbers. Between 2022 and 2024, we identified 887 such journals using the ScimagoJR and SciVal databases. We classified the journals into three types according to their growth patterns: decelerating, delayed, and exponential. Our analysis shows that high growth is often unsustainable, raising scientific and ethical problems. In extreme cases, Frankenstein journals are excluded from Scopus. The inaccuracies of the Hungarian Scientific Bibliography Database (MTMT) further complicate the process of researchers making informed journal selections. In view of this, we propose reforms to increase the transparency of domestic journal evaluation practices. This study aims to support informed publishing decisions and raise awareness of the need to avoid potentially risky journals.
