On the one hand, the introduction recalls the widely known debate surrounding the phenomenon of the neo-avant-garde (to what extent the neo-avant-garde can be considered an independent movement, and in particular, if it is a movement of real value). It also shows that works from the Central and Eastern European context, and from female art, often challenge some of the (negative) arguments of the neo-avant-garde ‚debate’, namely that the neo-avant-garde has given up the most important principles of its predecessor, the historical avant-garde: the rejection of institutionalism, the desire to reconcile life and art, and real subversiveness.
