This study contributes to the academic discourse on internal and settler colonialism while also
addressing the concept of borderland colonialism. As a migration study, it enhances the historical
understanding of migration and colonization links between the Austro–Hungarian Monarchy
and the United States of Brazil. The research analyzes the characteristics of immigration and
colonization in Brazil from the perspective of Austro–Hungarian citizens and governmental
institutions. The study is based on a 1912 ministerial report from Vienna, which provided an
overview of Brazilian immigration and settlement conditions for the year 1910. By focusing
on this specific year, the research employs an inductive reasoning approach to draw broader
conclusions on the subject. The primary objective is to explore the defining features of Brazilian
colonization at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and to reflect on its distinctive aspects
from the perspective of Austro–Hungarian officials. Furthermore, the study aims to highlight the
coexistence of parallel colonial enterprises on a global scale during this period, emphasizing their
complexity.
