The ongoing Paks II investment in Hungary means a significant use of environment. Water is one of thecomponents of the environment affected by this investment. For this reason, it is topical to examine certain rules ofthe Water Framework Directive in connection with this topic. Probably, the investment may have serious impactson water of the Danube, since according to the plans it will be used to the refrigeration of the new blocks.According to this, the study examines a concrete provision of the abovementioned directive, the fulfilment of theobligation on achieving good state of surface and groundwater. This study based on the first and second instanceenvironmental permits – after the analysation of these documents, it can be concluded, that the investment will notendanger the abovementioned provision on quality of water in case of proper implementation of the plans. Besideexamination of the related legal provisions, method of historical analysation is also used in this study.
