The Hungarian water management administration derives from a common historical rule with Austrian waterlaw. Within the framework of this research, we examine what kind of logic the Austrian water law is built. Indoing so, we will analyze the provisions of the Austrian Water Law Act (Wasserrechtsgesetz 1959, BGBl. Nr.215/1959 (WV)) currently in force. Austrian water law distinguishes between publicly owned and privatelyowned waters and sets different rules for them. The main areas covered by the law are: water use rules, waterprotection issues, general water management obligations, water companies, regulatory and procedural issues, waterand water equipment supervision issues, violations and related sanctions.
