A cikk három időszakra tagolva mutatja be az 1826-ban alapított Akadémiai Könyvtár működésének és szolgáltatásainak történetét. Az alapítástól a második világháború végéig néhány nagy tudású könyvtáros áldozatos munkával hozta létre és rendszerezte az egyre gazdagabb gyűjteményt, amit akkor még csak néhány száz olvasó használt. A 20. század közepétől a könyvtár az átszervezett MTA egyik fontos háttérintézménye, soknyelvű és korszerű könyv- és folyóirat-állományával a bölcsészettudományi kutatás és felsőoktatás szakirodalmi bázisa lett. 1988 óta új épületben működik. Bár az ezredforduló óta a nyomtatott dokumentumok terén a könyvtár gyűjtőköre szűkül, az online szolgáltatásokkal, az itt elérhető tudományos adatbázisokkal és jelentős digitalizációs tevékenységével továbbra is fontos támogatója a hazai bölcsészettudományi kutatásoknak. | The article presents the history of the operation and services of the Library of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, founded in 1826, divided into three periods. From its inception until the end of World War II, a few highly skilled librarians worked tirelessly to create and organize the ever-growing rich collection, which was used by only a few hundred readers at that time. From the mid-20th century onward, the library became an important background institution of the reorganized Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and with its multilingual and state-of-the-art collection of books and periodicals, the library became a specialized reference base for research in the humanities and higher education. Since 1988, it has operated in a new building. Although its collection of printed documents has shrunk since the turn of the millennium, the library continues to support domestic humanities research through its online services, the scientific databases available here, and its significant digitization activities.
