This study intends to explore how Ireland, Irish culture, and Irish English are represented in two pairs of contemporary online English–Hungarian and Hungarian–English dictionaries of Akadémiai Kiadó (Akadémiai Publishers).2 Headwords, entries, and senses related to Ireland, its people, and its Celtic language, those connected to Irish history, politics, and culture, and to the English language as used in Ireland, will be scrutinized in the aforementioned dictionaries. The presence and absence of certain geographical names, first names, lexical items connected to politics and culture, and of words and senses used in Irish English will be explored, analyzed, and commented on. Based on the lexicographical data examined, a picture of the representation of Ireland, Irish culture, and Irish English in these dictionaries will emerge, which may provide a useful starting point for future revisions of these dictionaries and for other dictionaries as well.
