A bulla függő fémpecsét, tehát az Aranybulla az aranypecsétjéről elnevezett oklevél. Az ókori népeknél megjelent pecsétek hármas funkciót töltöttek be. II. András az addigi egyoldalú nagypecsétek mellé bevezette a kettőspecsétet, mely a megnövekedett oklevél-kiállítási forgalomnak jobban megfelelt, és közben a hamisítások megakadályozását is elősegítette, ha az előlap és a hátlap nyomóját más-más őrizte. Hosszú uralkodása alatt II. András ugyanazt a nyomót használta az aranypecsétjeihez, melytől azonban a viaszpecsétek néhány ponton eltértek. Ez azonban nem jelent különböző címereket, csupán ugyanazon családi címer változatait. Az Aranybulla nagypecsételési záradéka szerint hét aranypecsétes oklevél kerülhetett ki a kancelláriából, történészeink azonban egyiket sem lelik. A levéltárak átkutatottsága mellett aligha remélhető az elveszettnek tételezett példányok felbukkanása, ezért csak annyit állíthatunk, hogy az 1222-es pecsétnyomó ugyanaz lehetett, mint az 1221-ből és 1224-ből fennmaradt oklevelek pecsétjeihez használt nyomó, mely egyébként II. Andrást élete végéig szolgálta. = A bull is a hanging metallic seal; thus, the Golden Bull is a declaration named after its golden seal. The seals, that can be traced back to the peoples of the antiquity, served triple purposes. In addition to the single-sided large seals, Andrew II of Hungary also introduced his two-sided seal, which better served the needs of issuing an increasing number of declarations and it also strengthened protection against seal forgeries if the front and back plates were guarded separately. Under his long reign Andrew II used the same plate for his golden seals, while some of his wax seals differed in a few respects. However, this does not mean different coats of arms, just variations of the same family coat of arms. According to the clause of the Golden Bull, the Chancellery issued seven declarations with golden seals. The historians found none, and – given the deep exploration of medieval archives – it is very unlikely that any of the original copies of the Golden Bull would resurface. Therefore, one can only be certain that the plate of the seal of 1222 was identical with the ones used for the declarations of 1221 and 1224, and it was the very same which served Andrew II throughout his entire life.
