IT systems are becoming increasingly essential in supporting business operations, especially within financial institutions, where their role is even more critical. The European Union (EU), the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), nation-states, financial institutions, international money and capital markets, and customers all have a common interest in ensuring that the information security of IT systems involved in financial transactions is maintained at a high level. For this reason, there is a decades-long tradition of supervisory, regulatory, and control requirements in the field of IT systems. This study presents an analysis of code security for a financial institution in Hungary, highlighting that, according to legal and regulatory requirements, such institutions are required to audit their code. These examinations can be implemented in practice by using NIST 800-53 rev5-based controls, which is an effective method for the overall information security assessment and management of codes.
