This research delves into the intricate layers of project delivery success within the construction sector, focusing on unraveling the connection between project managers' personality types and self-reported soft skills or soft competencies. It is known that project managers are key competence holders, together with PM team members. However, there are practical testimonials that project managers do not adopt all PM competences in equal proportion and at equal pace especially for “people competences” or “soft PM skills”. It looks like some soft PM competence elements attract more attention and, as such, are more practiced and quicker adopted during the work. The current researches do not provide clear answer why it happens, which creates gap for the proposed research.
Participants, comprising construction project managers, will undergo personality tests to determine their personal types. Subsequently, participants will self-report the levels of development of specific soft competencies, assessing their ability to demonstrate these skills in their work environment. By combining the results of personality tests with self-analyses of soft competencies, authors explore how different personality types among project managers correlate with the level of development of specific soft competence.
The methodology encompasses a diverse range of construction projects, taking into account varied conditions and requirements. Authors anticipate uncovering specific associations between personality traits, the development of soft competencies, and achievements in construction projects management.
The results of this research not only contribute to the theoretical understanding of the relationship between personality, soft competencies, and project delivery success but also provide practical insights for the selection, training, and management of project managers in the construction sector. This research will hopefully stimulate the development of strategies aimed at enhancing the performance and efficiency of construction project managers.
