The article examines the Libyan production of Federico Ravagli, a professor from Emilia Romagna who during the Fascist period moved to Libya where taught at the Italian high school in Tripoli. At the same time, hecarried out an outstanding chronicleand documentary activity. Ravagli uses writing as ameans of recounting his experiencein thecolony, which hewill putlater at the serviceof thepropaganda of theMussolini regime. In thethreetexts analyzed, Libyadoesnothavetheexotics featureswhich characterizedthefirsttales of travel, but it becomes theextension of Italy. The representation of “quarta sponda” that the author offers to us is theplacewherethe virtues of the fascist superman areaffirmed and wherethe cultural military value of Italian man in best displayed.
