Tartalmi leírás:
There has happened a new important event regarding the earth sciences: on 22 November 2021, at the UNESCO General Assembly in Paris, the 193 participating Member States approved the establishment of a new international day, which has got officially the name “Geodiversity Day”. Geodiversity is the natural range (diversity) of geological (rocks, minerals, fossils), geomorphological (landform, processes) and soil features and includes their assemblages, relationships, properties, interpretations and systems. The manifoldness of the abiotic nature is a similar value as the biodiversity; therefore, it is necessary to protect and conserve also it, especially taking into consideration that unfortunately according to several scientific papers and official resolutions of organizations, which are interested in nature conservation, the nature is only biodiversity. It can be hoped that this new international day will contribute to make known the importance of the geoheritage, geoconservation and geodiversity all over the World.
