This thesis uses thematic content analysis to look at the variations and similarities in formative assessment interpretation in three distinct time periods in the previous decade in two professional journals, Education Week and Edutopia. This research discovered that although there were no significant changes in how these publications interpreted formative assessment, they did have distinct focuses and emphasis in different time periods.
