Hungarian cultural heritage experiences a significant loss of valuable researchdata due to a lack of knowledge, infrastructure, and often even plans byacademic institutions to preserve born-digital information. National Laboratoryfor Digital Heritage (DH-Lab) has launched a project, supporting the openacademic research initiative, to archive and provide open access to born-digitalresearch data. DH-Lab plans to achieve a set of digital archiving pilot scenariosstarting with a database archiving pilot. This presentation provides a summaryof the pilot activities and results. In the scope of the pilot, three research databases created by the Institute forLiterary Studies of Hungarian Academy of Sciences have been archived using theinformation package specifications and database archiving tools of the EuropeanE-ARK program. E-ARK aims to impact the development of internationallyaccessible archives through the provision of technical specifications andtools. E-ARK components comply with the Open Archival Information System(OAIS) reference model for digital archiving. All three databases are archivedas SIARD files (a format designed specifically for database archiving), packagedin a standard E-ARK SIP package and ingested in the RODA OAIS repository.Three different image archiving strategies have been tested in order to find anoptimal solution for storing images (or theoretically any other larger objects)accompanying the databases.https://doi.org/10.31915/NWS.2022.33
