Tartalmi leírás:
Natural history collections harbour billions of biological and geological specimensworldwide. The collections of CETAF (Consortium of European TaxonomicFacilities) have amassed ca. 1.5 billion specimens, representing about 80% of theknown bio- and geodiversity of our planet. This is a unique material that can helpto solve endless scientific problems related to the environment and biodiversity.Accessing every bit these collections physically has become almost impossibleand costly. Collections, however, assemble into digitally accessible researchinfrastructures (RIs) worldwide making digitised specimens available online. One of these is the CETAF initiated Distributed System of Scientific Collections(DiSSCo), an RI under the ESFRI framework. DiSSCo is in a preparatory phase, but will be fully operational in 2026. The Hungarian Natural History Museum ispart of the process of this realisation, but it can become a full member of DiSSCoonly if it is included in the national RI roadmap.https://doi.org/10.31915/NWS.2022.13
