Triangle zones are enigmatic structures found in foreland fold-and-thrust belts all around the world. I used numerical models to examine the evolution of orogenic fold-and-thrust belts, with a special attention on triangle zones and the mechanical reasons responsible for back-thrust initiation. I focused especially on the effects of physical properties of rocks (angle of internal friction, cohesion, strain weakening range), the role of flexure and flexural rigidity and syn-tectonic sedimentation
