Artisanal small-scale gold mining is well-known, in Ghana, too, with amalgamation method to recover gold from ore minerals. Loss of mercury occur during all the stages of gold production. These result in the emission of mercury into the natural environment with significant adverse impacts on water, land, air, and severe health effects on humans being local, national or international due to ability to travel from its origin of emission.
