Aims
This study was aimed at assessing the efficacy of the method of paramedical counseling provided during the treatment period of male factor infertility patients, by employing the used patient conducting model so as to enhance the efficacy of the safety treatment process to develop adaptive health behaviours that influence reproduction by broadening the patients’ knowledge and to promote a favourable change in satisfaction rates.
Methods
Only patients with male factor infertility were involved. They were divided into an observed group (n = 57) and a control (n = 51) group after a thorough physical examination and assessment of their reactions to, and awareness of, the disease. The observed group received paramedical counseling on five occasions. Both groups also filled in self-report psychodiagnostic questionnaires, with patients in the control group doing so at the beginning and end of the study and those in the observed group doing so before and after the paramedical counseling.
Results
The group that received the interventions had an intense awareness of the diagnosis and aims and nature of the indicated treatment. They employed purposeful problem-solving coping strategies and reported being satisfied with the infertility treatment. The individual support helped the patients to preserve their own identities and human dignity.
Conclusions
In essence, more favourable mental well-being can be established by the active participation of patients with infertility problems during the treatment process with the help of paramedical counseling.
The implementation of the effective patient conducting process necessitates the introduction of paramedical counseling in nursing education as new knowledge. Furthermore, societal demand emphasises the need for a broad diversification of interprofessional teamwork services in clinics.
