The article attempts to present the role of education in the perception of the Waldensians who arrived as immigrants in Uruguay since the mid-nineteenth century. According to characters from those decades such as Pastor Daniel Armand Ugon and others, this is a matter of “life or death”; it is about the way to preserve the traditions and culture brought to Uruguay from the valleys of Piedmont.
El artículo intenta presentar el papel de la instrucción en la conciencia de los valdenses que llegaron como inmigrantes al Uruguay desde mediados del siglo XIX. Según personajes de esas décadas como el Pastor Daniel Armand Ugon y otros, éste es un asunto de “vida o muerte”; se trata de encontrar la manera de conservar las tradiciones y cultura que habían llevado al Uruguay desde los valles del Piamonte.
