Írásomban kora újkori – elsősorban jezsuita (Csete István, Gyalogi János) – Szent László-prédikációk emlékezésfogalmát próbálom körüljárni és példázni. A prédikációk Szent Lászlójára mint egy 820. éve (1192-ben avatták szentté) megrajzolt, megformált példaképre, ideálra, erényes férfira tekintek, amelyre a prédikáció szerzője és elmondója folyamatosan visszaemlékezik. Munkámban kilenc Szent László-napi beszéddel foglalkozom: Csete István feltárt kézirataiból néggyel és Gyalogi János Csete-kiadásából hattal.
My paper aims to highlight the memory techniques of the early modern Jesuit St. Ladislaus sermons. I try to delimit, define and exemplify the concept of memory of the sermones de sanctis sermons. The title of the paper contains the keywords of my argumentation. I examine these terms in sermons as literature and rhetorical corpus.
I regard the image of King St. Ladislaus portrayed in the sermons as prefiguration, role model, ideal and character shaped earlier, which the author of the sermon constantly remembers, builds the memories into his speech and actualizes them. I lay emphasis on the reminding function of the image.
I try to define memory as actualization, imitation, illustration, character portrayal, topos and parabole in the de sanctis sermons by resorting to the Jesuit rhetorics. I also point at the possibilities and difficulties of memory in connection with the St. Ladislaus sermons. I mention the memory subordinated to pericope, the teleological memory, the mosaic-like and fragmentary memory; the remembering through the enumeration of deeds, comparison, parallel and Biblical mythization; the visual, associative and collective memory. I use the concept of the body in relation to St. Ladislaus’s physical appearance and text corpuses.
