Tartalmi leírás:
The study aims to shed light on a subject pertaining to the analysis of the Romanian cultural-historical framework during the twentieth century, from the standpoint of historiography, namely the personality and reign of Transylvanian prince Gabriel Bethlen. The sources of the research lie in the main contributions of Romanian historical writing from that century (the interwar period, the communist regime and the post ‘89 years), i.e. a series of studies and syntheses dedicated to the prince and his reign. In the author’s opinion, there are two significant moments that can be identifi ed with regard to the presentation of the monarch in Romanian historiography: 1. 1929-four hundred years since the death of the prince and 2. 1980-four hundred years since his birth. Hence, from a subject germane to the history of Hungary and Hungarians in Transylvania, Gabriel Bethlen became a topic used to illustrate Romanian-Hungarian collaboration amid the communist period and the role and contribution of co-inhabitant nationalities to the achievement of state union and the national sovereignty of Romania.
