One of the shortcomings of the Renaissance in historiography of Hungarian philosophy in the last twenty years, which albeit of its varying level presents notable achievements, is the lack of a grounded evaluation and especially the lack of criticism. We mean the lack of valuations that are aware of the signifi cant trends in the history of European thought and are capable to create a comparison of these and the accomplishments of Hungarian philosophy. Instead of this we witness different fanners of exaggerations as infl ated praise, exaggerated modesty or relativistic endeavors that, although on different grounds, still fail to evaluate the works professionally. Our position is that such a balance should be able to show how the achievements at issue represent any plus compared to earlier ones, in what issues? Do they lag behind later accomplishments and comparing all of these to other contemporary accomplishments? In our study we undertake such an analysis regarding the philosophical significance of Böhm Károly’s system – taking into account the similar achievements, the aims and accomplishments of Böhm and their effect on the period’s Hungarian culture of philosophy.
