Tartalmi leírás:
Using contemporary studies by Zsolt Trócsányi and Ildikó Horn as well as the correspondence of Gabriel Bethlen, it is now possible to present in detail the Council and the councillors of this prince of Transylvania (1613–1629) who was also elected king of Hungary (1620–1621). Thus, we discover not only the structure of the Council, the names and the religious beliefs of its members, but also the history of the organisation and of the logistics of this major governmental institution. This paper addresses the problems raised by the accommodation and the meetings of the councillors as well as the communication with the absent councillors in a period when the prince and his entourage were very often on the road, both during times of peace and of war. The analysis of the 298 orders sent by the prince to his councillors shows the pragmatic nature of Bethlen’s government as well as the centralised management of Transylvanian warfare and diplomacy.
