Tartalmi leírás:
The study presents the connection between Gabriel Bethlen and the Szekler towns through the example of Székelyudvarhely (Odorheiu Secuiesc). Székelyudvarhely was Szeklerland’s sacral and political center. During the period of the principality it experienced the largest growth due to the presence of its castle which was built after 1562. The main elements of Gabriel Bethlen’s Szekler politics, however, were not the towns but his association with the elite as well as his professional military policy. During his reign, therefore, classical town development stopped, and the aristocratic elite started its influx into the town.
