Domokos Szilágyi’s volume entitled Farewell to the Tropes (Búcsú a trópusoktól) has been appreciated as a landmark not only in the context of the lifework, but also in that of the Hungarian poetry from Transylvania. In my paper, summarizing the most important statements of reception and thinking them further, I highlight language-critical specificities of the composition. It seems that the language-critical attitude can be connected to the questions of virtualization. It can be pointed out mainly in the analysis of the Death Dance Suite (Haláltánc-szvit) how the linguistic artwork becomes a kind of “tomb”, how its conception of language as anthropological a priori is withdrawn. I make an attempt at reinterpreting some texts of the volume (e.g. The Prophet A próféta) from the viewpoint of negative or apophatic theology, which can show denial not as a destructive possibility, but as a positive one even in a theological sense.
