Abstract
FEM simulation was performed in order to obtain the temperature variadon during a free cooling process of a coiled up steal sheet. In practice the main problem is that the different parts of the coiled metál sheet can cool down with different rate leading to a non-uniform solid state morphology, which can be considered in the frame of product quality. The control parameters of such a heat treatments are a big interest to improve the technology to get the desired quality. Our purpose was to calculate the T-t curves which can be mapped on the corresponding phase diagram for analysing the final structure. The model considered the heat radiation between the neighbouring sheet-sheet surfaces and between the sheets and the environment. Convective heat transport was allowed at the outer surfaces of the cylinder geometry, while conductive transport was let only in the axial direction in order to simplify the geometrical representation. The model is suitable to include possible advanced technological set up as applying outer radiation shields or exchange gas flow along the gap between the coiled sheet-turns.
