Tartalmi leírás:
The work titled “Magyar országnak mostani állapattyáról egy hazája szerető igaz magyar embernek tanáchlása” (Advice of a True Hungarian Man Loving his Motherland about Current Status of Hungary) published in 1621 in Vienna against Gabriel Bethlen is a uniquely comprehensive historic source. Except its only subsequent edition in 1838, literary history does not mention it in advantaged place. RMNY mentions it as a political document, and assigns it to “an author not named by himself ” besides indicating the name of Bishop Tamás Balásfi in brackets. In this study the new research results emerged during the preparation of the critical edition of “Tanáchlás” (Advice) are introduced, and we will point at how undeserved the succeeding generations neglected this work being signifi cant in the aspect of both philology and history. The structure of “Tanáchlás” (Advice) is introduced, its addressees are named, and the letters included are mentioned briefly. The events relating to its date will be introduced in details. These events helped us to solve the identity of the author. The most important result of our research is considered to be the identity of the author. This writing dated in the period of the discussions of Nikolsburg is originating from – based on our opinion – Miklós Esterházy, and not from Tamás Balásfi . We hold in our hands a significantly expanded, improved version of the open letter of Esterházy from 1619. The situation of Esterházy was not made easier by the unusually accelerated news flow of the Thirty Years’ War, when a sensational piece of news could become perfectly uninteresting in some days in the international public. In its writing refuting the royal legitimacy of the prince, and willing to lead to his Habsburg loyalty, adding the letters selected from almost thirty years to it, it was succeeded to reserve the traces of the political relationships of his age from the Fifteen Years’ War until the discussions of Nikolsburg; our critical edition can make it live again.
