The balance between the duration of vowels and consonants The ratio of vowel and consonant durations plays a key role in the speech rhythm model set up by Ramus et al. (1999) and its follow-up variations. In this study, we analysed the relationship between articulation rate and the speech rhythm metric %V in different speech styles. We found statistically significant correlation between the two parameters, implying that speakers exhibiting higher articulation rates tend to have lower values of relative vowel duration %V. The results highlight the complexity of connections between speech rhythm and articulation rate.
