Organizations in which production is fundamentally based on teamwork and which have a model describing teamwork are much more effective than those in which the characteristics of teamwork have not been developed and adapted to the characteristics of the organizational culture. "The better the team, the safer the world" (Sexton, 2004) means that the better the teamwork, the safer the world and the organisation in which we live and work. We do not yet have a universal model of team effectiveness that applies to all organisations, so each culture creates and develops its own model of teamwork. If there is a well-thought teamwork model, the organisation will be more aware of how to develop teams and increase their effectiveness. The Department of Ergonomics and Psychology at the BME has been working for the Paks Nuclear Power Plant for decades, thanks to the previous management (Antalovits, Izsó, 2003). Our most recent work has been on the development of block control room’s teams, the experiences of which are summarised in this article.
